Panthers Come Out Flat, Fall 1-0
Dayton, Ohio - Liz Soto scored with 10 minutes remaining the Raiders held off a furious comeback attempt by the Panthers as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to Wright State University at Alumni Field Saturday afternoon.
The loss is the first in Horizon League play for Milwaukee (5-8-1, 3-1-0 Horizon), while Wright State moves to 6-5-4, 3-1-1.
"We expressed too much complacency in our play and as a result we didn't deserve a positive result," Milwaukee head coach Greg Henschel said. "Wright State deserves credit for creating the style of game that they wanted and give them a lot of credit for playing the style of game that suits them and they did well with it. We were just too complacent today all the way through the match."
It looked like Milwaukee would get on the board early as Morgan LaPlant played a well-timed through ball to spring Kelly Lewers behind the defense but Brooke McCurdy came out and forced Lewers to shoot early and the ball went just wide of the net.
The Panthers had a few other opportunities on the offensive end in the first half, but the Raider defense blocked shots from Krissy Dorre and Kelsey Holbert to keep UWM off the board heading into halftime.
Wright State came out of the locker room on the attack, registering nine shots in the second half. Emilie Fillion appeared to have broken through for WSU, but Paige Lincicum came up with big saves on numerous occasions to keep the game level.

Soto got the Raiders on the board with just over 10 minutes remaining, taking a shot inside a crowded box and just lofting it over the defense and past a diving Lincicum and into the far corner for the eventual game-winner.
Milwaukee came right back and nearly knotted the game back up, but Maria Stephans' shot from close range went inches wide.
WSU outshot the Panthers, 12-10 and held the edge in corners, 6-3.
The Panthers return to the field Wednesday when they play host to in-state rival Green Bay. Kick off is set for 5:30 from Engelmann Stadium.
