Panthers Lasso Storm to Secure Postseason Berth

October 24, 2011

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime against visiting Lake Erie with three second half scores in a 16-minute span and held on down the stretch for the 3-2 regular season conference finale win at Panther Field on Sunday afternoon.

With the come-from-behind victory, the Panthers improve to 7-5-3 overall and more importantly, clinch the No. 2 seed in the four-team field of the GLIAC Tournament with a 6-3-3 mark. The Storm fall to 7-7-2 on the year and are currently slotted in the final playoff spot with a 4-4-2 conference record and two games remaining.

Lake Erie opened the scoring in the 39th minute of the first as Jake Shelton fed Danny Eborall with a pass ahead up the middle, and Eborall put it home from 12 yards out. Following the break, a foul in the box by the Storm goalkeeper allowed junior Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, OH) to knot the game at 1-1 with a penalty kick score to the lower right 90.

ODU found itself on top less than 13 minutes later, as junior Colby Catlett (Hilliard, OH) connected on his team-leading ninth score from the short right wing off classmate Thomas Senessie's (Westerville, OH) pass from the top of the box.

Just over three minutes later at the 61:16 mark, junior Andrew Edler (Hilliard, OH) worked some magic with his feet, weaving through defenders along the right endline, finding Justin Wheeler (Jr./Gahanna, OH) who struck his third goal of the season and the eventual game-winner from 14 yards away.

The Storm added a score with 37 seconds left to play for the game's final outcome. Senior keeper Andrew Jones (Worthington, OH) picked up his second win, swiping five of Lake Erie's 11 shots.

The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they are back home this Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. for the first of three non-conference games to close the regular season, beginning with former AMC foe, Urbana.
