Panthers Remain Unbeaten At Home
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Andrew Schwall (Gahanna, Ohio) scored the game winning goal in the 80th minute to lead the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Northwood Friday night at Panther Field.
The Panthers (9-2-2; 8-2-1 GLIAC), who remain unbeaten at home, have now won seven of their last 10 matches.
Sophomore Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) initiated the play by running down a long pass from midfield and sent a one touch from the right corner of the field to Schwall, who found space in front of the net. The freshman took full advantage of the beautiful strike from the right side of the box that left the keeper no chance.
The first goal of the night came about when Northwood's Brent Schmid knocked in his first goal of the season off a blocked shot in the first three minutes into the game. Schmid connected to the lower right hand corner of the net.
ODU's offense got off to a slow start in the early going, being outshot 8-4 in the first half.
After the intermission, senior Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, Ohio) evened the score at the 70:35 mark when he was fouled in the box. Campbell lined up the penalty shot, faked the Timberwolves keeper to his right and zipped the tying goal into the bottom right hand corner.
Northwood controlled most of the offense, outshooting ODU 16-9 for the game, including an 8-4 advantage on shots on goal.
Sophomore Macklin Robinson (Cincinnati, Ohio) collected seven saves in goal.
Ohio Dominican returns to Panther Field on Sunday, Oct. 27 for a 1 p.m. match against Saginaw Valley.
