Patriot Women fall 3-0 to ECU
Greenville, N.C. (Sept. 13, 2013) – The Francis Marion University women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 road decision to East Carolina University on Friday night in Greenville, N.C.
The Patriots (0-5-0) will wrap up its season opening six-game road trip Thursday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to take on East Tennessee State University. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor O’Berry played all 90 minutes in goal for FMU and recorded 9 saves. ECU (3-2-2) outshot Francis Marion 19-3 and held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Yasmin Bunter and Arianna Pierner each registered a shot for FMU. Freshman Tori Whigham recorded the Patriots’ final shot in the 89th minute.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute when Katelyn Custer headed in a goal off a pass from Brett Thomas. ECU would add two second half goals, the first from Stephanie Seagrave in the 58th minute. The final goal came in the 63rd minute off the foot of Kelsey Reeves.
