Patterson's OT Goal Gives Panthers Fifth Straight Shutout Win
ASHLAND, Ohio -- Senior Sierra Patterson's (Brecksville, OH) goal with just under two minutes left in the first overtime period lifted Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over GLIAC rival Ashland on a wintry, rainy, and blustery Thursday evening.
The win moved the Panthers above the .500 mark for the first time this season at 7-6-2 overall (5-4-2 GLIAC). More importantly, ODU moved percentage points in front of the host Eagles (6-6-3, 5-4-3 GLIAC) for the sixth and final playoff spot in the GLIAC Tournament, with three conference matches remaining for the Panthers and two for Ashland.
Patterson's straight-on score from about 12 yards out, her fourth of the season and third game-winner, came off of a cross from the right wing corner of the box by junior Jennifer Holton (Johnstown, OH) with 1:46 left in the sudden death period.
Freshman Laura Clark (Lapeer, MI) posted her fifth straight shutout in goal and sixth of the year as the Panthers have now gone 495:39 consecutive minutes without allowing a score.
ODU returns to action at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 when the Panthers play host to Lake Erie in their home finale and annual Senior Day.
