Penn Falls to #19 Georgetown, 3-0
PHILADELPHIA - Penn was in for a test as 2012 national finalist and 19th-ranked Georgetown visited Rhodes Field for the first of two Ivy League/BIG EAST Challenge matches, and the Hoyas lived up to their reputation in a 3-0 loss for the Quakers.
Two goals nine minutes apart midway through the first half provided all the distance Georgetown would really need in the match, each set up in part by Steve Neumann. The older brother of Penn freshman forward Alec found Bakie Goodman across the box in the 20' to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead, Goodman sending a low ball to the left post.
9:04 later, Neumann won a ball at midfield and fed Alex Muyl down the right flank. Muyl dribbled through multiple Penn defenders before getting in point-blank range to and slipping in Georgetown's second goal of the match.
Tyler Kinn was busy all night for the Quakers, having to deal with three corners and eight shots in the first half. Kinn made four saves in the match -- each in the second half -- and cleared all 11 of Georgetown's corners.
In the 63', the Hoyas added more insurance, 2012 national Rookie of the Year Brandon Allen scoring the fifth goal of his sophomore season. Allen one-touched a cross from Muyl, finding open space in the box.
Penn doubled its shot total in the second half, sending eight offerings towards Georgetown's goal. Five of those shots reached target -- none more dangerous than a Stephen Baker shot in the 76' which reserve keeper Keon Parsa scooped up. In the 88', Duke Lacroix had two quick shots in succession, Parsa corraling each.
Penn falls to 2-3-0 overall, while Georgetown improves to 5-2-0. Penn returns to action on Sept. 24 at Villanova with a 4 p.m. kickoff.
