Penn Settles for Scoreless Draw vs. Harvard
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team could not muster a game winner in 110 minutes, battling to a scoreless draw with Harvard on Saturday evening at Rhodes Field in the Ivy League opener.
Kitty Qu, who set the record for solo shutouts in a career the last time out against Towson, recorded another clean sheet, the sixth of the season for Penn. On the flip side, the Quakers laced just four of their 15 shots on frame, but put together stretches of play that looked as if Penn would find the winner.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening 15 minutes were quiet statistically; it wasn't until the 18th minute that the first shot was registered when Emily Sands pulled a free kick from just outside the box wide left. The best chance in the first half came from Allie Trzaska's weak foot, curling a shot from the corner of the box that was tracking for the far post, but Harvard's keeper was up to the task, batting it away for a corner.
The Quakers and the Crimson headed into halftime combining for just six total shots, but in the first few minutes of the second 45 it was obvious that the intensity was significantly raised. Penn created most of the chances and held the momentum out of the break, but Harvard's best chance came on a corner when the ball bounced around and Jillian Wachira managed to put a shot on target. Sasha Stephens came to the rescue, clearing the attempt off the line to keep Harvard scoreless.
Immediately following the save off the line, Penn countered and Emily Sands fed Katharine Larson in behind, but her shot was swatted away for another Quaker corner. At the hour mark Penn held control and Stephens was able to get a shot off, but it floated high.
The two Ivy League squads were trading punches in the final 20 minutes, creating some entertaining up-and-down soccer. Neither could find a winner in regulation, sending it to overtime.
Breukelen Woodard and Trzaska each created chances in the first extra period, but couldn't put their shots on target. Trzaska and Sands recorded shots in the second period, but ultimately, the defenses were too strong.
