HOW IT HAPPENED
Kitty Qu was forced into action a few times in the early minutes, even recording a save in the 2nd minute. Despite the early pressure, Penn struck first. For the second consecutive game, Sasha Stephens buried her opportunity within the opening 10 minutes, assisted by Emily Sands.
Just over 10 minutes later, it was Stephens again causing the Midshipmen problems when Allie Trzaska played her in behind on a perfectly weighted through ball. However, Baseley McClaskey equalized in the 28th minute, taking advantage of a free kick.
Penn wasn't done, though, adding a second goal before the halftime break. Trzaska notched her team-high fourth assist of the season when she found Kelsey Andrews for the goal, pushing the Quakers back in front 2-1. Andrews and Trzaska, along with Megan Lloyd, solidified the middle of the field towards the end of the first 45 minutes, dominating possession before the break.
Navy almost earned another equalizer to open the second half, but Chase Geffert was able to clear it off the line. On the end of the field, the center back Geffert almost scored on a free kick, but it was tipped just over the crossbar. Five minutes later, she found the head of Sands on another free kick, but it floated just wide in the 63rd minute.
Ten minutes later, the Red and Blue doubled its lead. Sands scored in the 73rd minute when she took a pass from Trzaska and hammered a ball from just inside the box. The goal was Sands' second of the season, following her match winner over Army West Point.
Emma Loving put the finishing touches on the afternoon, scoring after taking a pass from Jackie Bruder in the 89th minute. Navy quickly responded, tallying a goal with just 17 seconds left, but Penn's four goals were too much for the Midshipmen.
