Petrels Storm Past Scots
ATLANTA -- Coming off their first victory of the season, the Covenant Scots took to the road with a match at Oglethorpe University. The Petrels were not kind to the visiting Scots as Oglethorpe scored three goals in the second period to come away with a 4-1 win on Wednesday night.
With the loss, Covenant drops to 1-3-2 on the season while Oglethorpe improves to 5-2 for the year.
Oglethorpe took the early advantage with a goal from Aleksander Tanjga in the 7th minute of action putting the Petrels up 1-0. Covenant took five shots in the first period, but it was Joel Friesen’s attempt in the 30th minute that was the Scots’ best chance to score. Friesen’s shot was saved by Oglethorpe keeper Frank Petersen to keep it at 1-0 going into halftime.
In the second period, Covenant was able to tie the score at 1-1 when Hunter Harrison had his shot find the back of the net for the unassisted goal, his first of the season, in the 58th minute. Oglethorpe would have the answer, however, as they would score three times in a 15 minute span with goals from Jeff Arsenault, Nick Williamson, and Philip Rawson to secure the win.
Covenant could manage just 10 shots, opposed to 22 taken by Oglethorpe, for the match. Tyler Morrison led all Scots in shots taken with 3. Covenant keeper John Eger gave up a season high 4 goals, he had surrendered just 4 goals for the season prior to tonight’s match, while also collecting 5 saves.
The Scots return to action on Saturday, September 24 with a match at Centre College in Danville, KY beginning at 6:00 p.m. Covenant will return home on September 27 when they take on Tennessee Temple.
