Pilots Signs Five to Letters of Intent
Hanna Armendariz (West Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat HS), Taylor Babcock (Northville, Mich./Mercy HS), Sarah Jones (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas HS), Rachel Lusby (Beaverton, Ore./Westview HS) and Lauren Marin (Laguna Hills, Calif./Laguna Hills HS) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s soccer at the University of Portland. The five incoming recruits will join the Pilots as freshmen next fall.
Hanna Armendariz
5-5, MF/F
West Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat HS
Club: Slammers FC
Hanna Armendariz is a 5-5 midfielder/forward who began her high school career at Flintridge Sacred Heart before finishing at Bishop Amat. She earned two first-team all-league honors after garnering second-team all-league accolades in 2012. Armendariz was also awarded the Bishop Amat Impact Athlete Award in 2014 and she helped lead the Lancers to the Del Rey League Championship.
Armendariz trained with the U.S. U-14 National Team in 2011 after taking part in the U-14 National Team ID Camp in 2010 and 2011. She was also invited to the U-15 National Team Camp three times. Armendariz has played with the Region IV and the Cal South ODP’s since 2009, winning the Region IV Championship four times.
She’s played in extensive elite tournaments, winning several titles, across the country with her club teams and most recently was a part of the 2014 ECNL National League Player Development Program So Cal. Her Slammers FC club team was a finalist at the 2013 ECNL National League Championship.
Taylor Babcock
5-4, MF
Northville. Mich./Mercy HS
Club: Michigan Rush
Taylor Babcock, who is a 5-4 midfielder, has earned three letters and is entering her senior season at Mercy High School. A three-time all-district selection, Babcock also earned all-area, all-region and third-team all-state as a junior last spring. She’s been named team MVP twice, was rookie of the year in 2012 and helped lead the Marlins to a district title as a freshman.
Babcock has spent the past nine years with the Michigan Rush, competing in the Midwest Regional League Premier Division. Her club teams have reached several State Cup finals and won the Michigan State Cup in 2013.
Sarah Jones
5-7, MF
Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas HS
Club: FC Portland
Sarah Jones is a 5-7 midfielder who earned first-team all-state last fall with the Clackamas Cavaliers. A two-time First Team All-Mount Hood Conference selection, Jones was named the league’s co-offensive player of the year as a senior after helping the Cavaliers claim the conference title. Clackamas also won league titles in 2011 and 2013 and the Cavs finished second in the state of Oregon in 2012.
With her FC Portland club team, Jones won a Regional Championship in 2013 and reached the semifinals of the NPL Champions Cup that same year. Jones and FC Portland claimed the state championship a year later in 2014. Jones is a teammate at FC with fellow incoming recruit Rachel Lusby.
Rachel Lusby
5-9, GK
Beaverton, Ore./Westview HS
Club: FC Portland
A 5-9 goalkeeper, Rachel Lusby earned second-team all-state last fall after helping the Westview Wildcats win the Metro League title. A third-team all-state selection in 2012, Lusby was twice voted First Team All-Metro League.
Lusby has played with FC Portland since 2004 and she was with Region IV ODP (2011) and Oregon ODP (2007-12). She was a three-time selection to the Region IV Regionals All-Tournament team, she participated in the id2 Camp in 2011 and she took part in the National Development Camp in 2012. FC won a regional title in 2013 and claimed the state crown in 2014.
Lauren Marin
5-4, MF/F
Laguna Hills, Calif./Laguna Hills HS
Club: So Cal Blues
Lauren Marin, a 5-4 midfielder/forward, was a four-year starter on varsity for the Laguna Hills Hawks. A team captain, she earned First Team All-Sea View League after leading the squad in goals scored.
Marin also won the Southern California State Cup with her club team in 2010 before moving on to claim the Regional Championship as well. Recently Marin helped her So Cal Blues U-18 club team win the 2014 United Cup after previously reaching the semifinals at both the Players Showcase and the Disney Showcase. The So Cal Blues also won the 2013 Blues Cup.
