Pirates Fall To Golden Hurricane On The Pitch, 1-0
TULSA, Okla. - Miranda Zoller broke a scoreless tie in the 41st minute and Katie Bykowski posted her eighth shutout of the season as Tulsa (9-5-2, 3-3-1) defeated East Carolina (6-6-1, 1-5), 1-0, Friday night in Conference USA soccer action.
Zoller scored the game-winning goal at the 40:23 mark from 20 yards out on the right side for her first career goal (unassisted). Claire Hulcer had a team-best three shots, while Jordan O'Brien and Lindsay Kirch each added two attempts.
Junior Caty Butler led the Pirates with four shots on the night, one on goal, while true freshman Beth Batchelor (on goal), senior Kimmy Cummings and junior Rachel Fuller (on goal) also posted shots. Freshman Kelley Johnson, who has appeared in all 13 games, recorded her first collegiate start for the Pirates.
Bykowski recorded three saves on the night, while ECU junior Christiane Cordero stopped four shots in 90 minutes of work.
Tulsa had a 10-7 lead in shots, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal, and owned a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.
ECU returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 16 when they travel to SMU. Game time is set for 3 p.m. (ET).
