Providence Announces 2015 Recruiting Class
On Monday, Feb. 10, the Providence College women's soccer program announced that six student-athletes have committed to play for the Friars beginning in the fall of 2015. Katherine Day, Casey Estey, Hailee Duserick, Kayla Steeves, Elissa Dukeshire, and Catalina Mazo will be joining the Friars as the class of 2019.
"I am excited to welcome Casey, Katie, Hailee, Kayla, Elissa and Catalina to Friartown," Head Coach Sam Lopes remarked. "First and foremost, they are incredible people with great character and will represent Providence College to the highest degree. This class is a talented and hard working group that's motivated to contribute to the program as we strive to reach greater heights. They share the Friar passion and I look forward to our journey together."
Day, a midfielder from East Kingston, N.H., joins the Friars after a successful high school career at Exeter. Day served as captain her senior year. Day earned NSCAA All-Region, All-American Runner Up, N.H. All-State, and All-New England honors in 2013 and 2014. She also was a two-time First Team All-Division Selection after she played a key role in leading Exeter to win N.H. State Division I championships. She also is a member of Seacoast United and was a part of the N.H. Olympic Development Team and is a Region I Olympic Development Team representative. Day remarks, "I chose PCWS because I believe the coaching staff and players will push me to be the best soccer player I can be. The close knit Friar Family is what I was searching for in an academically challenging college."
Estey, a forward from Exeter, N.H., also attended Exeter High School and is a member of Seacoast United. She was a 2013 and 2014 NSCAA All-Region and All-American selection. She finished her high school career with 99 goals which contributed to the success of the team that won two Division I N.H. State championships. Estey was also a N.H. All-State selection, All-New England selection, N.H. First Team All-State selection, and First Team All-Division I selection in 2013 and 2014. Estey shared, "I chose PC because it fit every quality I was looking for in a school, including challenging academics, competitive athletics, small size and close to home. After I visited, I knew this was exactly where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life."
Duserick, a defender from Canton, Mass., attended Canton High School and was a four year varsity starter. Duserick led the high school team in goals with 15. As a defender her senior year, she served as captain and was an All-State selection. Duserick was a two time All-Scholastic honorable mention, Hockomock League All-Star and Best XI, and Eastern Mass. All-Star. She was also a US National League Player and is a member of NEFC. Duserick states, "I chose PC based on the amazing team culture that has been building each year. Between academics and athletics, it just seemed like a perfect fit for me and I feel I can contribute positively both on and off the field. The PC community is welcoming and assured me I will enjoy the next four years."
Steeves, a midfielder from Needham, Mass., attended Needham High School. She was named NCAA All-Region, NSCAA All-American, All-New England selection, two-time All-State Selection, two-time Boston Globe All-Scholastic, and four-time Eastern Mass. All-Star. She also earned Mass. High School Player of the Year honors. Her brother, sophomore forward Mac Steeves (Needham, Mass.), currently plays for the Providence men's soccer team. Kayla Steeves says, "I chose Providence for many reasons including the chance to play for Coach Lopes and the PCWS staff in the BIG EAST against top competition, to attend college with my brother, Mac, to be in a great city like Providence and to be a part of the Friar Family. It's a dream come true and I'm so excited and proud to be committed to the Providence College Class of 2019."
Dukeshire, a defender from Scituate, Mass., attends Notre Dame Academy and is a member of the Boston Breakers Academy. She served as captain of her high school team and was named to the 2014 All-State Selection. She was a two-time All-Scholastic Team member and Eastern Mass. First Team All-Star. Dukeshire shared, "I chose PCWS because I wanted to play for a New England college with a great sports program. After meeting the players and coaching staff, I was convinced this is the team I wanted to play on. I look forward to the challenge that this level of soccer will bring."
Mazo, a goalkeeper from Providence, R.I., attends Moses Brown and is a member of Bayside FC Bolts. She was a two-time All-State and All-Division selection, as well as a Youth National Training Center selection. She is a member of Rhode Island's Project Goal. In addition, she was an All-Division Selection in softball. Mazo says that, "I chose PCWS because I want to devote myself to a program that prioritizes team development. As a goalkeeper, sometimes you can forget what it means to be part of a unit. I'm proud to be a part of 'We Not Me'."
