LOUISVILLE, Ky. (www.purduesports.com) – In a wild game that featured seven goals, a power outage and two brief delays due to darkness, Louisville scored in the 102nd minute of double overtime to defeat Purdue women’s soccer, 4-3, Friday evening.

The game marked only the second time in program history the Boilers (2-1) have scored three goals in a loss. And it was Purdue’s first game since September 2002 in which both teams scored at least three times.

For the second Friday in a row, the Boilers established a new record for the shortest amount of time between scores. Louisville transfer Jordan Pawlik scored 46 seconds apart, both goals coming off assists from Hadley Stuart, to give Purdue a 2-1 lead in the 21st minute. Last Friday, Alex Hairston and Stuart scored 48 seconds apart in a season-opening win against Toledo.

The Cardinals (2-0) won the game on Katie Walz’s golden goal one minute and two seconds after the second overtime kicked off. Walz fired an impressive strike inside the right post from 30 yards out in the middle of the field. Louisville also scored following two of its nine corner kicks, including an equalizer in the 86th minute that sent the game to overtime.

Chinyelu Asher gave Purdue its first lead of the second half with her first goal of the season, and fourth career, in the 83rd minute. Taylor Niewoit connected a right-to-left pass to Asher, setting up her teammate with the space to fire a shot inside the right post from the heart of the 18-yard box.

Angelika Uremovich accounted for both Louisville goals off corner kicks, scoring in the fifth and 86th minutes. Coincidentally, it was Walz who had to leave the game late in the second half after a collision at the top of the 18-yard box. But she was able to return to the game for the overtime periods.
