BURLINGTON, Vt. - For the second-straight game, the Niagara men’s soccer squad played into double overtime, this time pulling off a hard-fought 0-0 draw with the Vermont Catamounts Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Smith Barney Classic.

The Purple Eagles (3-0-3) remain unbeaten in six games as senior goalkeeper Brett Petricek stopped all five Catamount (2-3-1) shots he faced to earn his second shutout of the season.  

Petricek, along with senior defender Rene De Zorzi and sophomore midfielder Jacob Ohlin were named to the all-tournament team after their solid efforts on the field for the Purple Eagles. 

"Again I am proud of the effort the guys put into the game,” head coach Chase Brooks said.  “They battled hard, especially on the offensive side.  Two scoreless sheets mean we’ve been putting together a great effort on the defensive end as well.”  

Neither team was able to sustain any offensive pressure in either overtime period as the game ended with the Purple Eagles and Catamounts getting no looks on net in extra time.   

Offensively, Vermont held the advantage during regular play, as the Catamounts accumulated 15 shots to Niagara's 10.  Niagara's best opportunity came in the 32nd minute when Ohlin saw his free kick ping off the post. 

Senior Bryan Da Cruz led the team with three shots, while Ohlin had two shots. 

Niagara will travel to Dayton, Ohio on Friday, Sept. 14 to play non-conference foe Wright State at 8 p.m.
