Quinnipiac Men’s Soccer Defeated By No. 16 Boston College, 5-0
NEWTON, Mass. – The Quinnipiac men’s soccer team fell to No. 16 Boston College, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon at Boston College Soccer Complex. The Bobcats’ record now stands at 0-2, while the Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season.
Boston College got on the board with its first goal of the contest on a free kick in the 37th minute of play. Kyle Bekker took aim from just outside the penalty box and beat Quinnipiac senior goalkeeper Kyle Moscovics (Cheshire, Conn.) for his third goal of the season.
The Eagles came out strong in the second half and added to their lead in the 59th minute of play, on a goal from Diego Medina-Mendez, his first of the season. Ryan Dunn picked up his first assist of the season on the score. Boston College would make the score 3-0 just three minutes later, as Amit Aburmad knocked home his second goal of the season on an assist from Stefan Carter.
Charlie Rugg added to the Eagle’s lead with his third goal of the season in the 80th minute of play. Aburmad was credited with the assist on the play, as his long pass led to Rugg’s deflection into the net. Boston College’s final goal of the game came just over five minutes later, as Aburmad scored his second goal of the contest to give the game its final score of 5-0. Bekker earned his first assist of the season on the score.
Senior Durval Pereira (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Nils von der Heide (Munich, Germany) each took a team-high three shots on the afternoon for Quinnipiac. Overall, the Bobcats were outshot, 19 to 11.
In net, Moscovics turned away two shots on the afternoon, while his counterpart Justin Luthy made four saves for the Eagles.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Monday, Sept. 5 when it travels to Burlington, Vt. to face non-conference opponent Vermont at 1 p.m.
