Radford Takes Down DSU, 6-0
(Radford, Va.) – Friday evening, the Delaware State women’s soccer team (0-3) began its five-game road swing with a 6-0 loss suffered at the hands of the undefeated Radford Highlanders (3-0-1).
In the first half, the Hornets found themselves in an early 2-0 hole after goals by forward Aysia Mitchell (1) coming in the eighth minute, assisted by forward Melanie Priestley (1), while forward Sahar Aflaki’s (2) unassisted goal occurred during the 10th minute.
The Highlanders continued their high scoring output during the period when forward/midfielder Julie Ruh’e (2) found midfielder/defender Stephanie Herb (1) for the goal during the 19th minute, followed by midfielder Lauren Hicks (1) feeding midfielder Annabel Bergin to make it a 4-0 contest during the 28th minute.
At the half, Radford registered 14 shots, compared to the Hornets’ lone attempt. In the net, DSU’s Katelyn Koslosky (0-3) recorded three of her five saves.
After intermission, the Highlanders wasted no time in pushing their lead to five during the 47th minute when Bergin(1) added an assist to her night by finding forward Britney Kendall (1) for the score.
With time dwindling down, same score, Radford put the match out of reach during the 80th minute with defenderMaddie Bisantz (1) scoring to put the finishing touches on Friday night’s contest. Kendall (1) was credited with an assist.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Highlanders finished with 23 shots, whereas the Hornets tallied seven. In the case of DSU, it placed two shots on-goal by way of midfielder Gabi Pinto and defender Katie Melore.
Coming up next, Delaware State will look to get in the winning column against the Virginia Military Institute Keydets this Sunday at 1 p.m.
