Rangers Advance to RMAC Semifinals
Denver, Colorado: With a dominating 3-1 win over the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners, the Regis University Ranger men’s soccer advances on to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Rangers scored first and never let up.
Freshman defender Zach Huff (Aurora, Colorado) played a hand in each of the three goals scored Wednesday afternoon. Huff scored his first goal of the season in the 15th minute of play to give the Rangers 1-0 lead. Senior forward Martin Maybin (Belfast, Northern Ireland) crossed the ball in front of the goal mouth around the six-yard box where Huff was there to strike it past Roadrunner goalkeeper Keegan Hand.
Regis would continue to possess and build momentum into their attacking third when senior midfielder Arnthor Kristinsson (Akranes, Iceland) scored his fifth goal of the season in the 33rd minute off of a throw-in from Huff. Huff positioned a long throw into the middle of the box where Kristinsson used his head to redirect towards the goal and into the back the net.
Just a minute later, the Rangers suffered an own goal to make the score 2-1. The score would remain in favor of Regis at the break. Maybin notched his 16th goal of the season putting the game out of reach for the Roadrunners in the 64th minute of play. Huff crossed the ball to Maybin who collected it and struck a curling ball into the lower left corner to make the score 3-1.
