Rangers Finish #7 on NSCAA National Poll
Men’s Soccer Finishes Out 2012 Ranked #7 on the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll
SALISBURY, Md.: After having arguably the most successful season in Regis men's soccer history, the Rangers finish out 2012 ranked #7 on the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll.
The Rangers finished 17-2-1 overall and 14-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
After remaining undefeated throughout regular season, the Rangers earned RMAC Championship status. It was the first undefeated Regis men's soccer season all-time and the second all-time in the RMAC. This feat advanced the Rangers to their first ever NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance.
Regis stayed on the national polls for 10 consecutive weeks after first ranking 19th on September 11th, 2012. They earned Ranger men's soccer's first national top spot ranking all-time and held it for three straight weeks. It was the first #1 national ranking for any sport in Regis Ranger history.
Head coach Tony McCall was named NSCAA South Central Region and RMAC Coach of the Year, while the Rangers also garnered three NSCAA All-America titles and two Daktronics All-American titles.
Six Rangers earned RMAC All-Conference recognition, including four first team honors and two second team honors.
The team finished third nationally in scoring offense, total goals, win-loss-tied percentage and total points.
Senior Taylor Diem was named a NSCAA Second Team All-American, Daktronics First Team All-American and RMAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Lead goal scorer (15), sophomore Martin Maybin also received NSCAA Second Team All-American status and Daktronics Third Team honors, while finding a place on First Team All-RMAC. He ranks eighth in the nation in points per game and total points.
Along with these accomplishments, the Rangers topped the record books in ten separate team single-season categories. They advanced in points (173), points per game (8.65), goals (64), goals per game (3.2) and game-winning goals (17), and saw the most wins they have ever had at a single season with 17, among others.
