Rangers Garner First RMAC Win 2-1 Over Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.:  A cold night for Regis women's soccer on the pitch, but a hot night for sophomore forward Sade Akindele. 

With 36 plus-mile an hour winds, Regis took the pitch against the wind in the first half, making the first 45:00 minutes a scoreless one, but giving them the favor of the win for the second half.

After sitting out due to injuries for the majority of the season, Akindele was fresh and ready to command the offense for the Rangers.

In the 61^st minute of the match, the Ranger sent a solo shot towards the goal from 18 yards out on the left of the opposition, sending the ball through to the right of the UCCS goalie's outstretched attempt to stop her.

Senior forward Meghan Stuart connected with Akindele for the second goal in the 74^thminute.  She beat her way down the line, passing the Mountain Lion defense for an open cross. 

After earning the opening, she sent the ball in towards the six yard box where several Rangers stood ready for a good shot and Akindele was the one to take it, sending it up and over the keeper to bring the Rangers up 2-0.

In the 81^st minute, UCCS would score to keep the match a close one, beating the Ranger defense on a breakaway and besting senior Ellen Augsburger for the goal.

Augsburger put in a big performance for Regis, owning seven saves on the night. 

Regis advances to 3-4-1 and 1-3-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The team will head to Colorado State University at Pueblo on Sunday, October 6, taking on the ThunderWolves at 12:00 p.m.
