Tough Play on the Pitch Gives Rangers First Loss of 2013 to Metro State
DENVER, Colo.: Cross-town rivals Metro State put up a good performance against RU men's soccer (2-1, 1-1 RMAC), handing the Rangers their first loss of the 2013 season 5-2 to the Roadrunners.
Regis outshot their opponents 18 to 11, while putting five of those shots on goal throughout the match.
Metro went up first early in the match and again in the 25th minute of play to go up 2-0 early.
In the last minute of the first half, juniors Martin Maybin and Andreas Bitter connected for a goal of the Rangers' own. Maybin flicked the ball in to Bitter who scored top right to try and close the gap 2-1.
Five minutes into the second half, MSUD scored again opening the gap up again 3-1 in the opposition's favor.
In the 65th minute, Regis earned a penalty kick opportunity after a Metro State hand ball within the 18 yard box. Maybin took the shot for RU sending it through to the right of the net, bringing the score to a close 3-2.
Metro would score two more times before the full 90 minutes were up, finishing the match up 5-2 on the day.
The Rangers will return to the Regis Match Pitch on Friday, September 27 at 3:30 p.m. to take on Adams State University before challenging Fort Lewis College at home on Sunday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m.
