Box Score
MADISON, N.J. (September 4, 2011) – Men's soccer exploded for three goals in the second half to claim its second-straight Fall Fest Championship with a 3-0 win over Curry College (2-1). Craig Wagenblast (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) scored two goals in the contest and was later named the tournament's Offensive MVP.
The two teams played to a 0-0 gridlock in the first 45 minutes of play with Curry holding a 10-6 advantage in shots. Drew (2-0) broke the scoreless tie in the 54th minute on the first career goal by John Nogiewich (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South). Junior Kevin Walpole (Newark, Del./Sanford School) headed a ball that rang off the crossbar and Nogiewich was waiting at the end line to punch it in.
The play of Ranger goaltender, Rich Boland (North Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown), kept the Curry offense from scoring as he made multiple key saves down the stretch. The junior was named the tournament's Defensive MVP as he registered his first career shutout in a six-save effort.
Wagenblast was able to provide the Rangers with some insurance as he scored two of the Rangers three goals. In the 72nd minute, Nicholas Callari (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) played a long ball from near midfield that Wagenblast was able to track down and beat the Curry goaltender. Nearly five minutes later he added his third goal of the tournament when he cashed in a rebound off his own shot.
The Rangers will have the week off until the travel west to Rutgers Newark for the Scarlet Raider Classic on September 10th and 11th. The Rangers will play Carthage at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
