Ravens Win Second Straight
ROSEMONT, Pa. - Two goals from junior Rodney Aguirre (Oakcrest/Mays Landing, NJ) and one from freshman Luke McIlvaine (Neshaminy/Feasterville, Pa.) propelled the Ravens to a 3-2 Men's Soccer victory over the Aggies of visiting Delaware Valley College.
The win places Rosemont's overall record at 2-0, the first time in the three-year history of the program that they have won their first two games of the season. Delaware Valley's record fell to 0-2 with the loss.
With only 1:53 into the game, Aguirre drilled a shot past Aggies keeper DJ Meisinger to put the Ravens up 1-0. Less than five minutes later, Del Val's Tom Masterson jumped high to find the net off a corner kick at 6:43. Aguirre ended the first half scoring with a header from point blank range off a free kick pass from junior Ron Vogelei (Bensalem/Bensalem, Pa.) to take a 2-1 lead into the half.
Just over 10 minutes into the second stanza the Ravens took a 3-1 lead off the boot of McIlvaine with an assist from junior Ryan Hartzell (Upper Dublin/Willow Grove, Pa.). Only 2 1/2 minutes passed for the Aggies to inch back to within one goal as Tristan Preece found the upper left corner directly after a throw-in to make the score 3-2 at the 57:50 mark.
Both teams had excellent chances but were unable to cash in over the remaining 32 minutes.
Both teams tallied 18 shots in the game. It was the second win for Nick Hulayew (Lansdale Catholic/Hatboro, Pa.), junior keeper for the Ravens, saving three shots on the afternoon.
The Ravens return to the road on Wednesday, 9/7 when they take on Moravian College in another non-conference tilt. The game will begin at 4:00pm.
