Razorbacks Push Vandy to 2OT
FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas rallied twice, but Vanderbilt got two goals from Cheyna Williams and the game-winner from Gena Inbusch midway through the second overtime for a 3-2 soccer victory over Arkansas on Friday at Razorback Field.
Vanderbilt scored early in each half and Arkansas scored late in each period to send the game to overtime.
Williams scored her second goal in the 13th minute of the second half to give the Commodores a 2-1 lead. Vanderbilt seemed on its way to the win until Yvonne DesJarlais scored with just more than a minute to play to send the game to extra periods.
In the first overtime, Vanderbilt had two shots and Arkansas one. In the second period, Arkansas had a 3-1 lead in shots, but at 104:44, a loose ball got away inside the box and Gena Inbusch scored from 10 yards out on an open goal for the win.
Vanderbilt is now 5-4-5 overall and 2-1-4 in the Southeastern Conference. The Razorbacks are 5-7-1 and 2-4-1.
"I thought we were good in most areas," head coach Colby Hale said. "This group is extremely resilient. We were down twice and came back, but like every game, we'll take confidence from the positives and pick out areas we need to improve on and work on them. This is a resilient bunch."
