Red Foxes Fall Short At Vermont
BURLINGTON, Vermont - Despite scoring two second half goals, the Marist men's soccer team lost to Vermont, 4-2, on Sept. 19.
Senior Brian Coyt and sophomore Kevin Kappock netted their first goals on low shots 10 minutes apart, but the Catamounts kept their lead for the entire contest.
Vermont tapped in a goal in the 10th minute for all of the first half scoring, though Marist did get some chances in front in the later minutes. The match hit its turning point early in the second half, as the Catamounts struck twice to go up by three goals.
The Red Foxes had a 12-11 edge in shots in the contest, including a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. Kappock and freshmen Cameron Harr and Bruce Jeter each chipped in two shots on goal.
"Our compete level wasn't good enough today," Marist head coach Matt Viggiano said. "We are talented but have to realize and embrace the effort it takes to win at this level. The hope from the group and staff is that we'll be ready for the MAAC opener Saturday and the rest of conference play."
The Rider Broncs will be the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent for the Red Foxes in 2015. The two sides will meet in Lawrenceville, New Jersey at 1 p.m. Sept. 26.
