For the second consecutive game the Seattle University men's soccer team was handed a 2-1 loss, this time in the final minutes of regulation. After evening the score in the second half, Sacramento State sent in the game-winner in the 87th minute, preventing overtime minutes and dropping SU to 1-7-2, 0-3 MPSF, on the season.

"We had another late breakdown (today)," said head coach Brad Agoos. "We gave up two goals and there were things we could have possibly done to stop them. I am proud of the guys for coming out and battling; we had our chances and the game could have gone either way."

At the 25:15-minute mark, CSUS' Max Alvarez got the Hornets on the board, shooting in a cross from Chris Bettencourt to the far post.

After going into halftime down 1-0, the Redhawks opened up second half action strong. At 45:56, SU sent the ball into the box and a Hornet player was called for a hand ball. Sophomore Ben Striar(Portland, Ore.) took Seattle U's second penalty kick of the season and successfully evened the game 1-1.

For the remainder of the half, Sacramento State attempted to pepper in shots, tallying an 8-2 advantage in the final 45. Strong defensive efforts held off the Hornets, until a breakdown at the 86:48-minute mark. Maxx Bauman followed through on an Alvarez shot to score the game-winner from five yards out.

Despite the loss, goalkeeper Jake Feener (Rocklin, Calif.) made several solid stops, tallying six saves in the match.

CSUS outshot SU 15-6, with an 8-2 on target advantage, in the contest.

The Redhawks return home to host their MPSF home opening weekend in a rematch of this weekend's games. They will open with San Jose State on Friday, Oct. 14, in a 3:30 p.m. contest and conclude the weekend with Sacramento State two days later. First kick is slated for 1 p.m.
