Regis Falls to Simon Fraser in NCAA Elite 8, Ending Historical 2013 Season
DENVER, Colo.: It has been a historical and memorable season for Regis men's soccer, with the Rangers advancing to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament and winning their first NCAA appearance ever during the sweet 16 match.
That season came to an end today on the Regis Match Pitch after RU fell 5-0 to the Clan of Simon Fraser University.
SFU scored early in the match in the eighth minute and closed out the first half with another goal going up 2-0 over RU by halftime. In the second half, the Clan scored within seven minutes of the start of the clock and then twice in the 84th minute and 85th minute to keep the Rangers down.
Regis put three shots on goal in attempts to close the gap, but was unsuccessful in putting one between the posts throughout regulation.
The Rangers finish 2013 14-4-1 overall, with an RMAC regular season championship under their belt as well as their first ever NCAA victory and Elite 8 appearance.
