Regis Garners 2-0 Shutout over Adams
DENVER, Colo.: Despite slick, rainy conditions Regis men’s soccer (3-1, 2-1 RMAC) put two in on Adams State (2-2, 0-1 RMAC) to earn a shutout on the 2013 season.
Sophomore Christian Nicolosi earned four saves throughout the match, while RU managed eight shots on goal in 15 shots of their own. The shutout marks his first of this season.
Regis scored early in the sixth minute when junior Martin Maybin beat the Grizzlies’ defense, took a shot that was saved by their keeper and rebounded for another attempt at the goal. After the recovery, the forward took a shot left of the goalie to bring the Rangers up 1-0 and marked his fourth goal of the season.
Regis would wait until the second half to score their second goal.
In the 62nd minute, senior Mark Kelly picked up a loose ball from the 36 yard box, dribbled past the opposition’s defense and chipped over the goalie straight through the middle of the goal to gain the 2-0 advantage and his third goal of the year.
Regis held Adams to six shots overall, only four of which were on goal for the rest of the match.
The team will stay at home on Sunday, September 29 to take on #16 Fort Lewis College at 1:00 p.m.
