Reid's Late Goal Lifts Warhawks to Win
Brianna Reid scored the game-winning goal with 1:04 left in the game to lift the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Concordia University Wisconsin Wednesday at Fiskum Field in Whitewater.
Concordia went on the attack early, registering 7 shots in the first 21 minutes of play. UW-Whitewater goalkeeper Jordan Myers came up big during that time, making four saves as the two teams played scoreless through the half.
The Warhawks flipped the script a bit in the second half as they put on some early pressure that resulted in a goal. Carina Krausert had a shot blocked in the 48th minute, but just under sixty seconds later she put a cross from Jenna Woodson into the back of the net to give the Warhawks a 1-0 advantage. Woodson now has 17 career assists, fifth all-time in the UW-Whitewater record book.
Myers came up huge again in the 62nd minute making a brilliant save on a header by Concordia's Brittany Klumpp. Nine minutes later Klumpp snuck one past the All-Conference keeper to tie the game at one.
Two and a half minutes later the Warhawks got a little help from the post and Myers again made a great save on the rebound attempt to keep the score even at one.
With just under two minutes remaining, after a quick restart, Sierra Becker found Reid, and from about 25 yards out Reid sent a laser into the upper left corner of the goal to give the Warhawks the victory.
Concordia outshot UW-Whitewater 20-11 in the game, but Myers made 7 saves. On Myers' play, Head Coach Ryan Quamme commented, "Jordan made some early saves to keep us going when we were rattled a little bit. I thought she played extremely well." He added, "I thought we played well tonight, an early season game, grinding it out, and getting the result."
The Warhawks have never lost to the Falcons, holding an 8-0-1 advantage in the all-time series.
The Warhawks (1-1) will host Edgewood College (0-0-1) Friday night at 7:30 pm.
