Rice Falls To SFA Friday Night, 1-0
HOUSTON - Stephen F. Austin scored in the 73rd minute to break a 0-0 deadlock and the visiting Ladyjacks hung-on for a 1-0 win over the Rice soccer team in the season-opening match for both teams Friday night at Holloway Field in Houston.
SFA's Dallas Brown found teammate Haily Hunt with a pass just outside the Rice keeper's box, who then found the back of the Owl net on the right side for what proved to be the game-winning goal. Rice held a 21-10 advantage in shots on the night, including Gabriela Iribarne who led all players in the game with a career-high eight shots. Ladyjack goalkeepers Morgan Glick and Lacey Lee combined for nine saves on the night with five and four stops, respectively. SFA is now 1-0 on the season.
Rice is 0-1. The Owls next return to action on Aug. 30 (Friday) with a road match at Western Kentucky.
