Rice Owls Announce 2018 Schedule
HOUSTON -- The Rice Owls' 2018 soccer schedule, featuring a total of ten home matches on campus at Holloway Field, was announced on Friday (June 1).
After a home exhibition match against SEC power LSU on August 10, Rice’s soccer season officially gets underway with home game against No. 20 ranked Texas on August 17. The Owls are then right back home the following weekend for a key non-conference match against state rival SMU on Aug. 23. Both of those home matches are set for 7 pm.
The Blue & Gray also welcome longtime foes Memphis (Sept. 7) and Tulsa (Sept. 9) as part of Rice’s home four-team tournament (along with Louisiana-Lafayette). The C-USA opponents to visit Rice this fall includes Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, UTSA and Middle Tennessee. The ten home matches are split into seven evening starts and three on Sunday afternoons. The road slate includes Alabama, Samford and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in non-conference. Rice’s C-USA road trips are to North Texas, Charlotte, Marshall, UAB and Western Kentucky.
“We are very excited about the upcoming 2018 schedule,” said Rice head coach Nicky Adams, the 2017 C-USA Coach of the Year after leading the program to the league’s regular season title a year ago. “We have ten incredible home games where our fans will be able to cheer us on! Our non-conference schedule is another challenging group of teams, but that will help prepare us for conference play starting in September. We look forward to the chance to to compete for another championship.”
Under the direction of coach Adams the Rice soccer program has won three conference championships, twice been to the NCAA Tournament and tied the school record for wins in a single season. In 2018 the Owls return 19 letterwinners from a year ago and welcome in a talented new recruiting class. The team's full 2018 schedule (both html & pdf) is available on RiceOwls.com.
