(Kansas City, Mo.) - Saturday evening, the UMKC women's soccer team (3-4-3) defeated the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (0-10), 2-1, in its first game of a back-to-back homestand.

The Kangaroos wasted no time in getting off to a fast start when midfielder Alyssa Elver (2) placed a corner-kick near Alabama A&M's goalie box as forward Taylor Bare (4) scored via header-shot during the third minute.

A little over a minute later, Kansas City took a 2-0 lead when forward Ellie Chadick broke away from the Bulldog defense as she fired a shot that was saved by keeper Linda Aboagye. However, forward Hannah Chadick (1) was there for the rebound and score.

During the 19th minute, the Bulldogs cut the deficit in half when forward Nycole Henderson broke away and split two Kangaroo defenders as she shot it by keeper Nina Tzianos for the goal.

Nevertheless, Kansas City's defense held steady as it was able to hold on for the win and out-shoot the Bulldogs, 23-4.

In the net for the Kangaroos, Tzianos saved one shot and picked up her second win, while Megan Goetzinger logged over 66 minutes of play in her first game this season.

Coming up, the Blue & Gold will complete its brief homestand this Monday at 7 p.m. against the Missouri State Bears.
