(Kansas City, Mo.) - Monday evening, the UMKC women's soccer team (3-5-3) completed its two-game homestand with a 2-1 loss to the Missouri State Bears (6-6-1).

This past Saturday, Kansas City defeated Alabama A&M, 2-1.

In the 16th minute, the Kangaroos took a 1-0 lead when forward Hannah Chadick (3) dribbled down the middle of the field and found forward Taylor Bare (5) on the right side for the score.

Earlier in the day, both players received weekly awards as Bare was named league player of the week by College Sports Madness, while Chadick earned Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Still in the first period, same score, the Bears tied the game during 25th minute when forward Rachel Weimer (4) controlled the ball a little past midfield and broke away from the Kangaroo defense. With keeper Nina Tzianos charging, Weimer was able to sneak it by her for the goal. Midfielder Michelle Sommer (1) was credited with the assist.

At the half, the score remained tied at one, as Missouri State held the shot-count, 5-2.

In the second period, neither squad was able to breakthrough until the 87th minute when Bears midfielder Michelle Mayne-Nicholls (1) dribbled down the middle of the field and fed a streaking Molly Brewer (2) on the right side for the score.

With little time remaining, Kangaroo midfielder Ashley Gann had an opportunity to tie the game when she controlled the ball near the Bears box. Yet, her shot sailed high as Missouri State was able to hold on for the win.

At game's end, Missouri State out-shot the Kangaroos, 11-6, while Tzianos saved three shots.

Up next, Kansas City will begin league play this Friday at 7 p.m. when it travels to Western Illinois (7-2).
