'Roos Fall 3-0 to Tulsa
(Kansas City, Mo.) - Sunday afternoon, the UMKC women's soccer team (2-3-2) came up short in its final contest of the UMKC Tournament, falling 3-0 to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (5-2).
Overall, the Kangaroos went 0-1-1 throughout the weekend with the tie coming against Saint Louis on Friday.
In Sunday's match, the Golden Hurricane got off to a fast start in the fifth minute when defender Claire Hulcer placed a corner-kick deep in the Kangaroos zone as midfielder Lexis Learmonth (1) knocked it in via a header-shot to give her squad a 1-0 lead.
Later in the 37th minute, same score, Hucler controlled the ball about 25 yards away from the Kangaroo net and sent a shot just over the reach of keeper Jami Finnell for the goal.
At the half, Tulsa out-shot the Kangaroos, 5-1, while Finnell picked up two saves to keep it a 2-0 contest.
In the second half, Kansas City had a chance to cut its deficit to one the 49th minute when defender Katie Curtis controlled the ball in front of Tulsa's net after a Kangaroo free-kick. But, Curtis shot soared high and out of bounds.
Tulsa would later put the game out of reach in the 77th minute when forward Claire Nicholson sent a header-pass to midfielder Alexa Sidorakis (1) near the goalie box as she snuck it past Finnell for the score.
At game's end, Finnell logged four saves, while the Kangaroos managed three shots to Tulsa's nine.
Coming up, the Blue & Gold will head to Creighton to take on the Bluejays this Thursday at 7 p.m.
