'Roos Fall Short to Bison, 2-1
(Fargo, N.D.) - Sunday afternoon, the UMKC women's soccer team (5-9-4, 2-4-1 SL) fell 2-1 on the road to the North Dakota State Bison (7-9, 4-3 SL) to conclude its weekend.
Coming into Sunday's match, the Kangaroos were sixth in the league standings behind Omaha (3-13, 3-3 SL), NDSU, Oakland (7-5-3, 4-2 SL), Western Illinois (12-4, 4-2 SL), and Fort Wayne (8-6-1, 4-1-1 SL).
The Bison struck first during the 10th minute when their leading scorer, Anisha Kinarth (5), put a penalty kick past keeper Nina Tzianos (3-7-4) for the goal.
Later in the period, the Kangaroos tied the game at one during the 35th minute when midfielder Hunter Wagoner (3) fired a shot from the top of the box past keeper Sierra Bonham (6-8).
At the half, the score remained knotted at one with Kansas City owning the shot-count, 9-2.
In the second period during the 63rd minute, NDSU regained the lead when Kinarth (6) placed a free kick in front of the Kangaroos net as Meghan Johnston (1) was able to knock it in.
As for the rest game, the Bison maintained their 2-1 lead to get the win while out-shooting the Kangaroos, 13-12.
In the net, Tzianos and Bonham came away with four saves each.
Coming up, the Kangaroos will conclude their regular season next Saturday at 1 p.m. on the road against the South Dakota Coyotes.
