RU Places 3 to Daktronics All-Region Team
Rangers Place Three to Daktronics All-South Central Region Teams; Maybin to First
COLORADO SPRING, Colo.: Regis earned three Daktronics All-South Central Region Accolades this afternoon after placing junior Martin Maybin on first team and seniorMark Kelly and junior Arnthor Kristinsson on second team.
This year saw history once again for Ranger men's soccer after the men won their first NCAA match in school history during the third round of the NCAA Tournament. RU also earned a spot in the quarterfinal match as members of the Elite 8 for the first time in the sport's history.
The Rangers finished out the season 14-4-1 overall and 11-2-1 in the RMAC conference.
Maybin garnered his second back-to-back Daktronics All-South Central Region First Team honor after leading Regis with 17 goals, nine assists, 43 points and six game-winning goals. He managed an impressive 61.4 shot on goal percentage after putting 43 of his 70 shots on goal. The forward also garnered All-RMAC First Team and RMAC All-Tournament team honors in both 2013 and 2012 and earned All-American status for both Daktronics and NSCAA last season. The Belfast, Northern Ireland native ranks top six nationally in four separate categories including fourth in total points and points per game, fifth in total goals and sixth in goals per game.
Kelly, native of Antrim, Northern Ireland earns his first Daktronics accolade by placing on the second team. The forward snagged 14 goals, seven assists, three game-winners and 35 points during the 2013 season. This season, he was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week twice as well as to the All-RMAC First Team. He was named Academic All-RMAC Player of the Year as well as to the Academic All-RMAC First Team.
Also on second team is Akranes, Iceland native Kristinsson. The junior midfielder transferred to Regis this year and made quite an impact on the pitch for Regis. He netted seven goals, including one game-winner and assisted on three others for 17 points. Kristinsson also garnered All-RMAC Second Team accolades and owned a 54.3 shot on goal percentage after putting 19 of 35 shots on goal.
