Russi's Goal Propels Knights to Win
Flushing, N.Y. – Back on the sideline this afternoon for the Knights, head coach Carl Christian saw his Knights earn their second East Coast Conference victory on the season, a 1-0 triumph over Molloy on Saturday from the Knights' soccer field in Flushing. The win gave Queens their sixth victory of the season.
The game was scoreless until the 32nd minute, when senior Lorena Russi netted the lone goal of the affair. Alexandra Troiano pushed the ball into the box and aired it to Russi through traffic. Russi then headed it past Molloy keeper Nicole DellaPorta. The goal was Russi's team-leading, sixth of the season.
In net, Knights goaltender Mersina Onesto posted her fifth clean-sheet of 2013, fending off all four shots that found her. Defender, Bernadette Wyndham, assisted her goalie's cause by turning away a header by Molloy's Sami Saad late in the second half, to help preserve the shutout.
The Knights return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 1, when they travel to Orangeburg, New York for a non-conference tilt with Domincan College. The kickoff between the Knights and the Chargers is slated for 3:30 PM.
