Saint Louis, Butler Battle to 0-0 Draw
INDIANAPOLIS – Katie Walsh made eight saves, including five in the second half and one in the first overtime period, and Saint Louis collected a point on the road in its Atlantic 10 Conference opener with a 0-0 tie at Butler Saturday night at the Butler Bowl.
Alli Reimer led the Billikens (2-5-3, 0-0-1 A-10) with four shots, including three on goal. Jessie Jarrett and Jamei Borges each had a shot on frame.
Butler, playing its first conference game as an A-10 member, fell to 6-3-2, 0-0-1.
Walsh recorded her fourth shutout of the season and the 18th of her career. She tied Hannah Perry for third place on SLU’s career shutouts list and closed to within one of second-place Amanda Martin.
“Katie did a really great job and came up with some big saves,” head coach Kat Mertz said. “Alli Reimer and Jenny Hummert also played very well.
“I’m proud of our players, they showed some fight tonight,” Mertz said. “Butler is a tough team to play on their home field, and to come in and get a point on the road, we’ll take it. I think we learned and grew a lot as a team in this game, and now we’re ready to carry that over to the Xavier game at home next Friday.”
The Billikens and Musketeers meet at Robert R. Hermann Stadium Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.
