Saints Battle Niagara to Scoreless Draw
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women’s Soccer and Niagara combined to tally 47 shots, but the goalkeepers collectively made 21 saves as the teams battled to a 0-0 draw at Siena Field. Taylor Dorado made eight saves to record her third shutout of the season for the Saints, while Sabrina Locas stopped 13 shots for the Purple Eagles.
Siena (3-5-3, 0-0-2) registered a season-high 25 shots and held a 6-2 advantage in corners in halting Niagara’s (6-2-1, 2-0-1) four-match winning streak. Dorado moved into sole possession of fourth place in program history with her 14th career shutout, as the junior blanked the MAAC’s second leading scoring offense (1.78) entering play.
The Saints controlled the first half in registering a 14-5 advantage in shots, but Locas made eight of her saves during the stanza to keep the match scoreless. The Purple Eagles held an 11-4 edge in shots in the second half, with Dorado making five of her stops in the period.
Siena held a slight 7-6 edge in shots during the overtime periods, but Locas made three more saves to preserve the scoreless tie.
Meghan Riccardi put four of her team-high five shots on target while reserves Gabby Albano and Rachel Sullivan added four shots apiece for the Saints which are unbeaten in five of the past six meetings between the programs (3-1-2)
Three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week Annie Ibey – who entered play tied for the league lead in scoring – paced Niagara with five shots, albeit just one on target.
Siena returns to action Saturday when they travel to defending MAAC Tournament Champion Monmouth for a rematch of last year’s conference semifinal. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from the Jersey Shore.
