Saints Battle Stony Brook to 1-1 Draw
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Linus Johansson scored his first collegiate goal as Siena Soccer battled Stony Brook to a 1-1 tie at Siena Turf Field. Serge Gamwanya scored for the Seawolves.
Stony Brook (2-2-1) held a 21-10 advantage in shots and an 11-6 margin in corners. Greg Monroe made two of his five saves in overtime for Siena (0-2-3) which earned a hard fought point against head coach Cesar Markovic’s former team. Johansson staked the Saints to a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. Tim Ugo played a ball wide right into the box to Matt Crisafulli who dribbled in along the end line. Crisafulli then sent a centering feed through to the far left post to Johansson who finished.
Stony Brook netted the equalizer with just 3:18 remaining in the first half. Kyle Honor battled Monroe for a loose ball at the left post and centered a pass back to Gamwanya who blasted home the tying tally from in close. Gamwanya led all players with a match-high eight shots.
Christian Miesch made two saves for the Seawolves.
Siena continues the program’s longest homestand in 11 years when the Saints host Army West Point in their third of four consecutive home matches Tuesday at 3 p.m.
