Saints Earn Tie at Fairfield
Siena Men's Soccer isn't used to settling for ties. The Saints' previous eight overtime matches abruptly ended with golden goals. That streak came to an end as Siena earned an important conference point in a 1-1 draw at Fairfield.
Nils Weddig became the 11th different player to score a goal this season for Siena (6-6-1, 2-2-1), volleying home a free ball in the 63rd minute. Weddig came off the bench to lead all players with three shots, all of which were on target.
But Fairfield (5-4-2, 2-2-2) answered back less than five minutes later. Joan Brachmann finished George Newton's corner to knot the score.
Fairfield out-shot the Saints 13-10 and both teams attempted eight corners apiece. Adam Myers made five saves for Siena, while Joe Martin stopped seven shots for the Stags.
The Saints return to the pitch Saturday when they host Manhattan for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Siena Turf Field.
