Saints Fall at Defending MAAC Champion Rider
Meghan McCabe and Shannon Kelly scored as defending MAAC Tournament Champion Rider shut out Siena Women’s Soccer 2-0 in Lawrenceville, N.J. Senior goalkeeper Liz Rogan made three saves for the Saints.
The squads played evenly for the majority of the first half, before McCabe headed in a corner from Hollie Kelsh to put Rider (7-5, 4-2) in front in the 40th minute. The Broncs had an opportunity to go up two scores heading into the half, but Rogan saved a penalty kick from Kelsh in the final half minute of the stanza.
Kelly added her insurance goal in the 77th minute for the Broncs which have won six of their last eight overall, with each victory coming via shutout.
Rider held a 9-6 edge in shots and a 7-1 margin in corners. Bethany-May Howard made two saves to record the clean sheet for the Broncs.
Sophomore midfielder Madison Vasquez led the Saints with a pair of shots including one on target, while classmate Michele Tremblay accounted for Siena’s other shot on goal.
The Saints return to Siena Field Wednesday when they host Fairfield at 3 p.m.
