Saints Post 17th Straight Win Over Saint Peter’s
Pereira Scores Twice Including Game-Winner
Sophomore striker Andrea Pereira scored twice including the game-winning goal and Siena Women’s Soccer held on late to earn a 3-2 win at Saint Peter’s. Freshman midfielder Michele Tremblay added two assists for the Saints which have won 17 in a row in the series, outscoring the Peacocks 68-8.
Pereira, who had scored just once in 24 collegiate matches entering the day, had a career afternoon. She opened the scoring just 1:29 before the halftime horn to give the Saints (5-5-3, 2-1-1) a 1-0 advantage. Siena took all nine shots and all nine corners attempted in the first half.
The Saints scored twice in just 32 seconds early in the second half to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Tremblay played a thru ball to Jones for her third of the year and then had her attempt deflected off Pereira and into the goal just seconds later.
Saint Peter’s (1-11, 1-2) rallied with a scoring spurt of their own midway through the second half. Kristina Neri scored twice in just 2:10 to quickly rally the Peacocks within a goal. But the Saints held on to remain unbeaten in seven of their last eight matches, improving to 4-1-3 over that time.
Siena held a 12-5 advantage in shots and took a season-high 15 corner kicks.
Taylor Booth played the first 65 minutes in goal to earn the win for the Saints, while Liz Rogan finished up in her season debut and made one save. Lauren Solene stopped two shots for Saint Peter’s.
The Saints will now enjoy four of their final six regular season matches at the friendly confines of Siena Field, beginning with an encounter against Niagara Wednesday at 3 p.m.
