Saints Secure Another Tie
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Senior captain Taylor Booth made nine saves to post her third shutout of the season as Siena Women’s Soccer played Niagara to a scoreless draw at Siena Field. With the tie the Saints move to 4-1-4 over their past nine matches, marking the program’s most successful stretch since winning 12 in a row to start the 2010 MAAC Championship season.
Despite 41 combined shots and 12 corners, neither team was able to find the back of the net as Siena (5-5-4, 2-1-2) played to its second scoreless draw of the season. The Saints’ four ties this year match the program’s most in a single-season (2008).
Niagara (6-2-4, 2-1-2) controlled the action for the first half of the match, out-shooting the Saints 9-5 in the opening stanza. The Purple Eagles nearly broke through in the 25th minute, but Naomi Giovino’s shot clanged off the post.
Siena hit a post of its own in the 80th minute. Coming off her first career multi-goal match which included the game-winner Saturday at Saint Peter’s, sophomore striker Andrea Pereira corralled a misplayed ball by a Niagara defender and beat the keeper, but her shot deflected off the left post. Pereira proved to be a sparkplug off the bench once again, leading the Saints with five shots.
Claire Feiertag made eight saves for Niagara to post her conference-leading sixth shutout.
Siena welcomes Manhattan to Loudonville for a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday.
