LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women’s Soccer controlled play from start to finish in a 1-0 shutout of Iona at Siena Field. Senior captain Meghan Riccardi scored the lone goal in the 52^nd minute for the Saints which held commanding advantages in both shots (25-6) and corner kicks (8-1).

Taylor Dorado made three saves to record the clean sheet for Siena (5-6-3, 2-1-2) which tallied its sixth consecutive victory over Iona (2-11-1, 0-5-1). The junior moved into sole possession of third place in program history with her 16^th career shutout.

The Saints peppered the Gaels’ goal with 15 first half shots, but Emma Havrilla made seven saves to preserve the stalemate. However, in the second half, Siena would find the elusive goal and play strong defense to notch their second straight 1-0 win.

Just seven and a half minutes into the final period, freshman Emily McNelis played a long ball through down the middle. Riccardi won her matchup 1v1 and beat Havrilla five-hole for what ultimately proved to be her third career game-winner.

Riccardi matched the entire Iona team in registering six shots, while Jayanna Monds added five for the Saints which tied a season-high in shots for their second straight home contest while setting a 2018 benchmark in corners attempted.

The defense did the rest, as Siena allowed just one second half shot to enter the midway point of the conference schedule with momentum.

Havrilla finished with 11 saves for the Gaels who are winless over their past eight matches (0-7-1). 

The Saints will look to keep it going Wednesday when they head to Saint Peter’s for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
