Saints Shutout Saint Peter's 2-0
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena Women’s Soccer dominated from start to finish in beating Saint Peter’s for the 15th straight time, 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Siena Field. Seniors Brittany Pfaff and Sara Mikula scored for the Saints which are now unbeaten in their past six MAAC home openers (5-0-1).
Siena (5-5-1, 1-1-1) out-shot Saint Peter’s (2-7, 0-3) 30-6 and held a 12-0 edge in shots on goal. The Saints also harbored an 8-1 edge in corners in improving to a perfect 15-0 under head coach Steve Karbowski against the Peacocks.
Pfaff scored her MAAC leading 10th goal in 11 matches in the 24th minute, heading in a cross from Anna Grant. The senior captain, who entered the weekend ranking in the top-10 nationally in both points and goals, now has 24 points for the season.
Siena had a number of chances to break the match wide open, but Saint Peter’s goalkeeper Molly O’Halloran made 12 saves to keep the Peacocks within striking range.
But Mikula put the match away in the 80th minute. Ali Lewis played the ball out wide right to the senior back who ran onto it and fired a shot that deflected down off the crossbar and in for her first collegiate marker.
Siena keeper Taylor Booth did not need to make a save in posting her first clean sheet of the season for the Saints which have outscored Saint Peter’s 64-6 during their 15-match winning streak.
The Saints return to action Wednesday when they host defending MAAC Regular Season Champion Marist at 4 p.m.
