San Diego State Wins Defensive Battle, 1-0
August 28, 2016
SPOKANE, WA - Michael Sauers scored in the 11th minute, the only tally in a otherwise stout battle of defenses, leading San Diego State (1-0-1) to a 1-0 victory against Bradley (0-1-1) in the first-ever meeting between the two programs Sunday at Luger Field.
San Diego State finished the game with an 8-5 advantage in shots and each team managed only two shots on goal for the match. Sauers beat Bradley keeper Logan Ketterer with a blast from the top left of the 18-yard box for the game's lone tally at 10:07. Adam Allmaras made two saves, one in each half, to earn his first shutout of the season for the Aztecs.
After starting the season with its first-ever games in the state of Washington, Bradley will open its 9-game home slate next weekend by hosting Fairleigh Dickinson, #24 Utah Valley and Evansville in The Hotels at Grand Prairie Classic Friday and Sunday at Shea Stadium. Evansville will play the opening game each day and Bradley will follow with 7 p.m. games Friday versus Fairleigh Dickinson and Sunday against Utah Valley.
