Sara Calvert Named CACC Rookie of the Week
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Concordia College freshman Sara Calvert (Apple Valley, Calif.) has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week in women's soccer. The announcement came on Monday afternoon from the CACC and is reflected for games played between Sept. 5th and Sept. 11th.
Calvert helped lead the Clippers to a 1-1 week which included a 2-1 OT victory at St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday afternoon where she scored both goals in the game. In the 37th minute of the game, Sara brought the score to 1-1 as the Spartans' goalkeeper misplayed the ball and Calvert was on the doorstep to knock in her first collegiate goal from 10 yards out.
In overtime, Sara would record her first collegiate game-winning goal only 1:13 into the session as solid passing by freshman Jimena Garcia Risoto(Madrid, Spain) led to the goal. The duo would break down the St. Thomas Aquinas defense and Calvert would be in alone on net to record her second goal of the game and give Concordia the 2-1 overtime win.
Sara and the entire women's soccer program will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Dominican (N.Y.) for a CACC game. Kickoff at Holtdorf Soccer Field is set for 3 p.m. as fans unable to attend can follow the action by clicking on the live stats and video links under the women's soccer schedule page on ConcordiaClippers.com.
