Scots Fall In Season Finale
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- On a night where Covenant said goodbye to four seniors, it was the visiting Berry College Vikings that spoiled the night as the Vikings came away with a 2-1 win on a chilly evening at Scotland Yard.
The four seniors, Ryan Ostrowski, John Eger, Johnny Frame, and Todd Fleming, were recognized during the evening’s activities.
Berry came out quickly in the first 45 minutes as they scored twice in a matter of 11 minutes. Zak Wallingford put the Vikings on top in the 18th minute when teammate Daniel Wartner’s short, low cross was one-timed off the side of Wallingford’s foot into the corner of the net.
In the 29th minute, it was Wallingford again this time unassisted. Wallingford broke through the Covenant defense and put his shot past Scots keeper Eger and into the upper portion of the net for the 2-0 advantage.
The Scots got a late score in the 86th minute of action. Fleming, who has been hampered by an injury for the better part of the season, scored his first goal of the year as he knocked the ball in from close range. Chris Pifer’s flick within traffic earned an assist, his second of the year.
Berry outshot the Scots 14-10, with a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Eger had 2 saves on the night and Ostrowski came in to start the second period and recorded 3 saves of his own.
Covenant ends the regular season with a 7-9-2 record and will wait to see who they will play in the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament on November 18-19 played at a site to be determined.
