SCSU and Bemidji State run to a 0-0 tie
In a match-up against the defending NSIC champions from 2018, the St. Cloud State University soccer team (1-1-2, 0-0-1 NSIC) opened its 2019 conference schedule with a 0-0 2OT tie against Bemidji State University (1-2-1, 0-0-1 NSIC) on Friday, Sept. 20 at Husky Stadium.
On a steamy evening in Central Minnesota, SCSU and Bemidji State squared off in a defensive battle on the pitch at Husky Stadium. The Beavers managed to outshoot the Huskies by a slim 12-11 margin as SCSU goalkeeper Zoe Welsh earned her second shutout of the season with nine saves to her credit.
This marked Welsh's eighth career shutout in two seasons with the Huskies and it moved her overall career record to 9-7-6.
Offensively, SCSU was led by Claire Shea with three shots in the game, while Brooke Bares, Kristine Knief and Monica Majeski all added two shots apiece in the tie game against BSU. The tie snapped a four-game losing streak for the Huskies against the Beavers, which won the regular season NSIC title in 2018.
The Huskies will continue their 2019 season on Sunday, Sept. 22 with a 1 p.m. match at Husky Stadium against Minnesota Crookston. The game has been designated as Senior Day and SCSU will recognize its eight 2019 seniors, which includes Brooke Bares, Harper DeMay, Mia Giorgi, Kristine Knief, Hannah Marion, Monica Majeski, Mallory Mollenhauer and Emma Van Donselaar.
The game has also been designated as Youth Day with all youth in grades 12 or under being admitted FREE with a paid adult.
Tickets for the match are available at the gate and all SCSU students get in FREE to this NSIC home match at Husky Stadium.
