SCSU Soccer rolls to 3-1 win over U-Mary
The St. Cloud State University soccer team used a three-goal first half to score an important 3-1 NSIC victory over the University of Mary (1-6-2, 1-5-1 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 7 at Husky Stadium.
The victory keeps the Huskies among the top three in the current NSIC standings with a 6-3-2, 5-1-2 NSIC record. SCSU will continue its season on Sunday, Oct. 9 with a game at league leader Minot State University in Minot, N.D. at 1 p.m.
The Huskies broke into the scoring column against Mary with a goal by Maria Kass at 25:24 of the game. Audrey Clarno posted the solo assist on the goal. Kass added the eventual game winner at 37:05 of the game with an assist from Abby McDonald, which made the score 2-0. This was Kass' eighth goal of the 2016 season and her 16th career goal in two seasons with the Huskies.
The final SCSU goal was posted by McDonald at 40:54 with an assist from teammate Brooke Bares. This was McDonald's first goal of the season and her second career goal at SCSU.
Mary broke the shutout early in the second half with a goal by Kaelie Schumacher at 50:34.
SCSU and Mary both had 11 shots in the game. SCSU goalkeeper Julia Clifford made four saves in the game and moved her season record to 6-3-2. Karleen Pappert made four saves in the game for U-Mary. Kass led SCSU with five shots in the contest, while Jordan Loya added two shots for the Huskies.
